DSUK (Danish Church Abroad / Danish Seamen’s Church)
Dansk Kirke i Udlandet, Danish Church Abroad, DKU, was our connection to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark until 2004 when DKU merged with the Danish Seamen’s Church to form the organisation Danske Sømands- og Udlandskirker, DSUK, which now continues to connect us with the church in Denmark.
DKU was formed in 1919 when an organisation in support of the Danish church in Berlin expanded its scope. Our first DKU pastor, Pastor Sørensen, arrived in 1935 and was instrumental in the building of our first church. In 1950 we almost left DKU in favour of the Canadian Lutheran Church but fortunately our Danish roots won out.
