The Danish Lutheran Church of Vancouver, B.C.

Social Clubs and Volunteers

Our auxiliaries and social groups are a great way to meet local Danes, perhaps practice that forgotten Danish. While these groups serve the purpose of helping to raise funds that support the church, they are also a way to socialize, have some fun, and of course share a little coffee, cake, and hygge.

Knit2gether group

A handful of people who meet in the church library on the first Tuesday of the month. We knit and talk and socialize.  We knit socks, baby cardigans and blankets for the church bazaars, and now for the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival as well.  We sell products to local Danes and people all over B.C., and have exported other provinces, the US and even Denmark. We also have a satellite group of knitting colleagues on Vancouver Island!
We also knit Nisse-hats, bow ties, daddy/son ties, and much more.

If you want to knit with us, please email Gerd.

Ladies Auxiliary

We meet in the hall at noon on the first Thursday of the month.  Bring your lunch.  We arrange for coffee after a funeral.  We make the coffee, set the tables, provide goodies, and serve them.  This group participates in the Spring Tea & Bake Sale, Fall Bazaar and Rummage Sale.

If you want to join us, please email email Ebba Grey.

New Auxiliary

New Auxiliary - This big group has both men and women in our midst.  We are involved in all the fundraising activities in the church, including dinners, Spring Tea & Bake Sales and Fall Bazaar, Christmas.   The New Auxiliary meet on the second Thursday in the Church Hall at 7:00 pm.  We discuss a little business and then enjoy a cup of coffee and some home made treats.

If you want to join us, please email email Knud Nielsen.

Man Cave

Man Cave - In a community like ours at the Church, there is lots of different skills. We come with different professional backgrounds, both in terms of craftsmanship, knowledge and passionate hobbies. Therefore, we started our handcraft DIY group: ‘the Man Cave’. Not that you must be a man to join us, but we had to come up with a catchy name. We work mainly with wood, but are more than open to expand if someone wants to contribute having other skills. Our first project was making a wooden family game, called Quarto.  As mentioned, we are interested in new ideas, but most of all we are interested in more members coming out of the woodworks! So, if you can hit the nail on the head, we need you in our handcraft group. Steen Larsen heads up the Man Cave group.

If you want to join us, please email email Steen Larsen.

Music Committee

The Music Committee arranges concerts in our church from visiting choirs and other musical groups. We often throw in a pot-luck dinner as well. Generally, the performers have some connection to Denmark, but that certainly doesn’t limit the type of music enjoyed in our Church.  In the past, we often have been treated to concerts by Danish choirs on their way to, or from, the International Choir Ḵathaumixw held in Powell River.  If your group is interested in giving a concert for us, please contact Janet Mowatt. The sooner we know your group will give a concert, the sooner we can  advertise it in our Church paper and on our events calendar.    We also are lucky enough to have a big band rehearsing in the Church hall every month which, on occasion puts on a great show for the community.

If you want to join us, please email email Janet Mowatt.
